Phoebe Calver – 8.0
Nose: A lovely combination of salty peat, citrus peel, orange marmalade and damp wood. Some fresh elderflower notes, too.
Palate: Follows through from the nose, with more peatiness, sea salt, delicate oak spice and slices of juicy orange.
Finish: Lingering with the peat and light elderflower.
Comments: A really lovely interplay between the peat and freshness. I would definitely sit with this for a while and enjoy.
Christopher Coates – 7.9
Nose: Wood smoke, coal dust, moss, menthol, eucalyptus and olive brine. Pear drop and liquorice.
Palate: Medium-light bodied, but with prickly ginger heat that subsides with time. Sweet ripe red apples and pears. A little cucumber and celery, seared and smoked on a barbeque. Heather honey on burnt white bread, with more pear drop.
Finish: Medium-short. Evaporates and dries out, leaving apple core.
Comments: Spirit forward. Bracing but invigorating, like standing on Islay’s coast in the wind and spray.
