Bacard Global Travel Retail has announced the latest addition to its GTR-exclusive Exceptional Cask Series: the Glen Deveron 40 Years Old Highland Single Malt.
This previously unreleased Scotch single malt has been selected from the distillery’s private reserve by malt master Stephanie Macleod. Distilled in November 1980 and finished for its final year in a Spanish oak oloroso sherry butt, it is the oldest expression from the distillery to date.
Each individually numbered bottle comes with a glass stopper engraved with the Glen Deveron insignia and is presented in a wooden box with a brand booklet.

Macleod explained: “Having spent many hours nosing and sampling several whiskies in the Glen Deveron inventory, I found myself drawn to the impeccable quality of the whisky in this particular cask. Spanish oak is beautiful to work with: it bestows intense colour and spice and is perfect for finishing. Casks of this high standard and age are few and far between and, when you consider oak’s profound effect on the taste of whisky, it is not surprising that the details count.
“As a result, the Glen Deveron 40 Years Old is a stunning example of an older Scotch with the dry spicy notes of the oloroso complementing the apple and cereal notes that are the signature of the Glen Deveron style.”
Owners of the Glen Deveron 40 Years Old will also have the opportunity to explore the Glen Deveron distillery in a digital experience that combines augmented reality (AR), CGI and audio effects. The experience features a visual journey through the coastal landscape around Glen Deveron, a tour of the distillery, and a guided tasting narrated by Macleod.
Ignacio Vazquez, global head of marketing at Bacardi Global Travel Retail, said: “With its beautiful balance of notes from the final year of ageing in Spanish oak, the Glen Deveron 40 Years Old is a tremendous addition to our portfolio, supporting our mission to delight and inspire whisky shoppers with very rare, aged whisky discoveries that they will only find here in global travel retail (GTR). The immersive digital journey adds distinctive layering to their purchase experience, combining education and entertainment with a personal shared tasting voiced by Stephanie herself.”
Located in the coastal town of Macduff, Glen Deveron is the most north-easterly distillery in Scotland. The distillery sits on the banks of the River Deveron (from which the whisky takes its name), a waterway that is famed for its salmon fishing.
The Glen Deveron 40 Years Old (43% ABV) will be available from December 2022 in select travel retail locations worldwide with a recommended price of US$4,900.
