Bethany Whymark – 7.8

Nose: Pineapple foam sweets and nectarines with yoghurt. A peachy sweetness like Refreshers. A hint of crème anglaise. Some darker hints of blackberry.
Palate: Blackcurrant jam tarts, with the pastry slightly caught on the edges. Poached apricots and crème fraiche. Sweet glace cherries, and the syrup from tinned peaches.
Finish: A sticky sweetness of peach conserve and touches of sweet spice.
Comments: Almost liqueur-like in its sweetness and viscosity – there’s room for a bit more gin character to shine through.

Phoebe Calver – 8.1

Nose: Making me feel very autumnal, like a rhubarb crumble covered in vanilla custard, with chunks of stem ginger kicking through.
Palate: The crumble notes continue here, with a little more citrus and clean-cut juniper emerging through the fruity notes.
Finish: The rhubarb note gradually mellows, with stem ginger cookies and a little juniper.
Comments: Sweet and funky, it’s very tasty and manages to avoid leaning to the artificial side of things.
