Bethany Whymark – 8.1
Nose: A big hit of baking spices – cinnamon, ginger, and cloves – with a little black treacle. Touches of orange marmalade, liquorice, and lingonberries.
Palate: Lovely notes of juniper come through first, herbaceous and resinous, with some woody pine. Then clove, and a touch of aniseed that bring an almost menthol-like freshness.
Finish: Lingering notes of clove and cardamom.
Comments: A delightfully spicy gin that would be a good fit for a Negroni.
Phoebe Calver – 8.3
Nose: Intriguing herbal notes, like caraway, with white pepper giving some heat and clean juniper.
Palate: There’s more sweetness to the spice here, with caraway seeds, lemon zest and more of the juniper.
Finish: Lightens up on the spice, leading more with lemon peel to the end.
Comments: Really enjoyable character, certainly unique and intriguing to sip as it comes and could make a sassy cocktail base.
